1. Overall Guidelines
1.1 - This is meant to be fun. -
WoW is just a game, and you should do your best to ensure that you have fun, and that the game is fun for others.
1.2 - Respect (fo sho!) - You're expected to show respect for guildmates and other people in general.
1.3 - The Spirit of the Code of Conduct - Where the Code of Conduct does not cover a specific circumstance (and there are lots!), you are expected to do the right thing based on our overall philosophy. Exploiting a loophole or doing something questionable because it "doesn't say not to in the
CoC" is not an acceptable excuse. If you're ever in doubt, that might be an indication that you're up to no good.
2. Conduct within the Guild
2.1 - Loot - The overall objective is to get everyone in the guild as well-equipped as possible. The guild's default loot system is need before greed using the new Group Loot setting (with options for Need, Greed, and Pass). Master Loot may be used on bosses in order to prevent accidents and ensure everyone has enough time to look at the shiny items before making any decisions. Need rolls must be made only for items you fully intend to use.
2.1.1 - Equipment - Need rolls for are appropriate for gear you can equip immediately (although you may choose not to, if the new equipment is not appropriate to the role you are currently fulfilling in the group). If you wish to roll on an item that you cannot currently use (e.g. because you are too low-level to use it) with the intent of using it in the future, you may roll for need if it is an uncommon (green)
BoE. For rare (blue) and epic (purple) items, you should ask your group before calling need. You cannot call need for items you would like for any toon other than the one you are currently playing (i.e. no rolling on items for alts or friends' characters) and you cannot call need for items you intend to disenchant.
2.1.2 - Vanity Items - While there is nothing wrong with wanting to roll on an item that would look "cool" on your character (but that would serve little function beyond posing in Ironforge), you are expected to give priority to those who could actually use the item in anger (i.e. in
PvE or
PvP). You are expected to roll greed on these items, unless you have permission from the group to roll need.
2.1.3 - Class Sets - For the few items that are actually limited to a specific class or classes, you obviously will not be permitted to call need. For rare sets that are not limited to a specific class, but that are widely understood to 'belong' to a particular class, you should ask the group before calling need. Generally, preference will be given to those from the appropriate class for need rolls. If no one from the appropriate class needs a particular item, it is acceptable to call need if you can and will use the item.
Sets and their Primary Class:
Beaststalker Armor - Hunters
Wildheart Raiment - Druids
Lightforge Armor - Paladins
Shadowcraft Armor - Rogues
Magister's Regalia - Mages
Dreadmist Raiment - Warlocks
Battlegear of Valor - Warriors
Vestments of the Devout - Priests
The Elements - Open (preference to Hunters, Paladins)
2.1.4 - Hunter Weapon - Aside from the rare class sets, the guild does not subscribe to the idea that certain items 'belong' to certain classes -- if you can and will use an item, you are free to roll on it. However, realize that some items are better for some than for others. If an item is a marginal upgrade for you and a huge boost for someone else, consider passing the item to that person. If you're concerned about losing an item that you feel you absolutely need, negotiate with other interested parties before the run begins.
2.1.5 - Recipes and Trade Items - For trade formulas, patterns, and recipes, need may be called for recipes you can learn immediately. If you wish to roll for a recipe that you cannot immediately learn, ask the group before calling need. For quest items such as stitchings, chromatic scales, and paragons of power (coins and bijoux from ZG), you may roll need if you have a quest that requires the item. For trade goods such as gems and righteous orbs, you may call need if you require the item for an enchant or a crafted item that you intend to use yourself. For enchants that you intend to sell or items that you are crafting with the intent of selling, please roll greed.
2.1.5.1 - Pristine Hide of the Beast - Need rolls are permitted for anyone who has one of the armour quests from Winterspring that requires the hide. The skinner and any other skinner in the group capable of skinning the Beast may roll twice, regardless of whether they require the hide.
2.1.6 - Accidentally "Ninja'd" Items - Accidents will happen. Understand that the item lost is nothing more than a collection of bytes on Blizz's servers, and as such, not worth losing friends over. Accidental looting of items should be addressed with mutual respect and without animosity. Possible soulutions include financial arrangements or repeated subsequent guild attempts to obtain the item for the person who lost it. Officers should immediately be made aware of any accidents, and will arbitrate where necessary.
2.1.7 - Not-So-Accidentally Ninja'd Items - Are totally unacceptable, and may result in swift removal from the guild. Officers should be made aware of the problem immediately. If no officers are available, they should be contacted via in-game mail or on the guild forum. Screenshots of the transgression are encouraged.
2.1.7.1 - Reporting a Ninja to the Community - In the unlikely event that we uncover a ninja within our ranks and that person is removed from the guild, an officer may post a warning to the general community provided the post is professional and backed by screenshots. Under no circumstances should members post on public forums before disciplinary action is completed (as this falls under "Airing Guild Affairs in Public").
2.1.8 - DKP - DKP are only awarded for schedule raids (Tuesday and Thursday 7:30-11 and Wednesday 8-8:30ish). Current DKP standings can be found [url=
http://syzygy.thedigitalsoul.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=445]here∞. Please note that we are currently still working this system, so you may see changes to our DKP system. Changes made to DKP will not be retroactive -- any points you've already earned will be unaffected by policy changes.
2.1.8.1 - Earning DKP
All new characters will get a new DKP account which starts with 5 points. This will allow you to participate in the bidding process immediately.
You earn a point bonus for any boss kill that we have killed previously and 1 point per hour spent working on a boss if we fail to kill them (up to the point value of that boss - 1). So, for example, if we kill Boss A (worth 3 points) 2 hours into the raid and kill Boss B (also worth 3 points) 20 minutes later, everyone gets 6 points. But, instead, if we spend the next two hours unsuccessfully trying to kill the Boss B, everyone in the raid would earn 5 points. If everyone was feeling especially masochistic and we spent an additional three hours on Boss B without killing him, everyone would still earn 2 points (since Boss B is worth 3 points, the point-per-hour bonus is capped at 2). As we progress and improve, points for killing a boss will decrease over time. Current boss values are as follows:
Molten Core
Lucifron 1
Magmadar 1
Gehennas 1
Garr 1
Baron Geddon 1
Shazzrah 1
Sulfuron Harbinger 1
Golemagg the Incinerator 1
Majordomo Executus 1
Ragnaros 3
Onyxia's Lair
Onyxia 2
BWL
Razorgore the Untamed 3
Vaelastrasz the Corrupt 3
Broodlord Lashlayer 3
Firemaw 3
Ebonroc 3
Flamegor 3
Chromaggus 3
Nefarian 3
Temple of Ahn'Qiraj
The Prophet Skeram
Lord Kri
Princess Yauj
Vem
Battleguard Sartura
Fankriss the Unyielding
Viscidus
Princess Huhuran
Vek'nilash, Vek'lor (Twin Emperors)
Ouro
C'Thun
Outdoor Raid Bosses
Kazzak 3
Azuregos 3
Emeriss 3
Ysondre 3
Lethon 3
Taerar 3

1 bonus point will be awarded if a Raid is cancelled due to lack of numbers (for all that showed). The early-bird bonus point will also count for those who arrive on-time for a cancelled raid (so effectively 2 points for a cancelled raid if you were on time).
Bonus Points granted for the following:
1 point for being ready and waiting at start point at the designated start time. Starting point for MC/BWL is Thorium Point in the Searing Gorge. Starting point for Onyxia is Theramore. Starting point for TAQ is Cenarion Hold.
Points are only awarded when a boss is killed or when the raid leader stops the raid. Showing up on time and clearing trash for an hour and then leaving before the boss kill will earn 0 points. Killing 2 3pt bosses and wiping on a third 3 point boss for 2 hours and then leaving (before the raid leader calls it) only earns you 6 points, not 8 (as you would earn if you waited for the RL to call it).
5 bonus points for being part of a first boss kill (on top of the regular boss-kill points)
Negative Points accrued by:
-2 points for going AFK extended periods of time and not telling anyone
-2 points for wiping the raid via Baron's Bomb or some similarly catastrophic negligent act (aggroing the imps on Lucifron, getting knocked into the whelps on Onyxia).
Negative points given out at the discretion of raid leader for unsportsmanlike conduct or problematic behaviour.

2.1.8.2 - Bidding - Bids cannot be made for more DKP than that account had at the beginning of the raid -- the bidder cannot bid themselves negative (see below), and they cannot use points earned in the current raid (aside from the initial 5 point bonus, if it is the person's first time raiding). Bidding is done by silent bid (whispered to the auctioneer). The single highest bid wins the item and that amount is deducted from the winner's DKP account. There are no 'do-overs,' so consider your bid carefully. Ties will be settled via random rolls.
2.1.8.2.1 - The Auctioneer - In most cases, the raid leader will be the master looter and the auctioneer. In cases where the raid leader wishes to bid on an item, he may assign another auctioneer before bidding begins.
2.1.8.3 - Negative Bidding - Negative Bidding - You are always allowed to make a minimum bid, even if it would put you negative. If there is a tie bid anyone starting with positive points would roll off. If all bidders start with negative points, the one who would be the least negative wins the bid. You are not allowed to bid more than the minimum if it would put you negative.
2.1.8.4 - DKP and Alts - Different characters are treated as different DKP entities. There is no transferring points between players, nor is there transferring points between a player's characters. Points will always be earned and spent by the character being played, for that character's gear. The only exception would be if the raid leader asks someone to switch to an alt for class composition, then and only then, at the raid leader's discretion, can points be earned on a character other than the one being played.
2.1.8.5 - Loot - Items have no set DKP price. Their price will be determined by bidding. All epic set items and weapons have a minimum bid of 10 points. All other epic items have a minimum bid of 5 points. All green
BoEs will be raid rolled. All blue
BoEs will go to the guild bank and will be available upon request (items requested by multiple people may be rolled for). All cores/raid materials obtained in MC will go to the
NitF bank and will be used to create gear for guild members in exchange for DKP (prices will be determined by the officers). Requests for gear can be made in the [url=
http://syzygy.thedigitalsoul.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=10]Guild∞ Bank forum. Please note that priority on items will be based on the needs of the guild.
2.1.8.6 - Special Loots
2.1.8.6.1 - The Onyxia Scale backpack is a
BoP green. It's a biddable item and has a min bid of 1 point.
2.1.8.6.2 - The Bindings of the Windseeker (Right/Left) are legendary weapon components. They have min bids of 10. An unclaimed binding is bid regularly. Once a winner is determined, they are offered the option to buy the complimentary binding for 25 dkp. They are allowed to go negative for that, and it will be subtracted immediately. They are placed on the bottom of the list for the other piece. When a binding drops and there are people who have pre-purchased it, it goes to the person at the top of the list for no points (and that person is removed from the list).
2.1.8.7 - The Spirit of Bidding - When you bid on an item, you are essentially 'paying' the raid for that item (through your contributions up to that point). So while it's in your own best interest to acquire items for as few points as possible, keep in mind that if you get the item for nothing, you're getting a free epic at the expense of the rest of the raid (which is why we have minimum bids). It's in everyone's best interests for you to pay a fair price for your items. Arrangements with other players to try to obtain items for fewer points than they would normally cost you unbalances our economy and undermines others' ability to obtain items, and will not be tolerated. People who are found to be attempting this simply won't be invited to our raids and may be disciplined in other ways as well (e.g. fed to the Monkey). There is a grey area, however, around deferring to friends or to members of your class who could make better use of an item (e.g. a feral druid passing on Cenarion in deference to a restoration druid). Just keep in mind that if you're going out of your way to save points on items, you aren't helping the raid.
2.1.9 - ZG Loot - Zul'Gurub is kind of a special instance, and therefore has a special loot system. This loot system will likely apply to the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj as well. Basically, we are using a NBG roll system, but there are several differences from your standard NBG loot rules.
2.1.9.1 - One Epic Per Instance - You are limited to one epic per instance (i.e. the raid instance you are saved to for 2.5 days) excluding primal hakkari items (which are not considered epic under this system). The only exception is the 'free epic' -- if everyone passes on the item, and the master looter declares the item a 'free epic,' you may roll on it even if you have previously won an epic in the same instance or, if you have not won an epic already, you will still be permitted to roll on another epic later on, should you wish.
2.1.9.2 - Called Items - You may call a rare (blue) or epic (purple) item ahead of time for the duration of the instance (i.e. the raid instance you are saved to for 2.5 days), although it is strongly discouraged. If a called item drops, only the people who have called it may roll. If only one person has called the item and it drops, that item is automatically theirs. Items can only be called at the beginning of the instance (at the start of the first run on the first day). You may not change or cancel your call at any time -- once you've called an item and the raid has begun, you are stuck with your item call. Additionally, by calling an item, you are pledging to be present for every boss the group intends to kill in that instance, and you are agreeing to forfeit your opportunity to roll on any other rare or epic item in the instance, no matter how unusual or amazing it is, or how much it would benefit you. Calling an item is really only in your best interest if there is only a single item in the entire dungeon loot table that you desire. Please consider your options carefully before opting to call an item.
2.1.9.3 - Crafted Items - All craft or tradeskill items unique to ZG should be sent to the guild bank (Toon name: Bankholder) for distribution. These items include mojo, bloodvine, souldarite, and bat or tiger leather. These items will be made available to crafters who can use them to make people items they desire. If there is a specific item you would like crafted, please post your request in the [url=
http://syzygy.thedigitalsoul.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=418]Sign-Up∞ List and we will attempt to accomodate your request. Provided that you are a regular contributor to
NitF raiding efforts, these items will be crafted for you free of charge and with no strings attached. You may be required to purchase some of the more mundane ingredients (such as leather, engineering components, or thread) if the crafter is not able to provide these themselves.
2.1.9.4 - Coins, Bijoux, and
BoE World Drops - All
BoE items that drop off trash mobs, including coins and bijoux, are rolled Need -- that is, you roll Need whether you need it or not. Items that are upgrades for people must be relinquished, however, if someone asks for it (or rolled for, if multiple people call need). Coins and bijoux are yours to keep and trade or break. Please check with your guildmates before breaking bijoux or coins, though -- you may be destroying an item that could otherwise be turned into an armour upgrade for someone.

2.2 - Helping Out - You are encouraged to help out guildies as much as reasonably possible (e.g. when you aren't already committed to a group), and to ask for help when you need it.
2.2.1 - Scheduling - If you are having trouble finding a group to do something, ask for help on the forums and attempt to schedule a run ahead of time. As much as we all hate Uldaman, you're likely to meet with more success if you ask here. ;)
2.2.2 - Monopolizing Others' Time - We all love to help, but realize that we have our own stuff to do as well. Try to avoid relying on the same person's help excessively.
2.3 - Swearing and "Adult" Conversations - Generally in guild chat, party chat, and Vent/TS, swearing and "grown-up-talk" is fine in moderation. Recognize that everyone's threshold for what is appropriate and inappropriate is a little bit different, though. If you are asked to tone it down or stop entirely, please respect that person's wishes and adjust your language accordingly.
2.4 - Discriminatory Language - Language that discriminates against anyone based on race or sexual orientation is totally unacceptable. Please avoid this entirely.
2.4.1 - Damned Famers - While many of us are not fans of goldfarmers (i.e. players whose sole purpose in the game is to obtain gold to sell for real-world money), their country of origin/residence is not relevant. Please avoid using "Chinese Farmer" or similar terms. "Goldfarmer" is sufficient to convey your meaning and cannot be construed as racist or culturally-biased.
2.5 - In-Guild Disputes - When a dispute arises among guild members, try to keep it impersonal and objective. If the parties are unable to resolve it themselves, ask for an officer or officers to arbitrate. Under no circumstances should disputes be made public. Use the guild forums only if necessary, and the
WoW forums should never be used for in-guild disputes.
2.5.1 - Disputes with Officers - If a member has a dispute with an officer, or there are circumstances that do not allow an officer to be entirely objective (e.g. dispute with a close friend or spouse), other officers should be involved as is necessary. For the purpose of that specific dispute, the officer directly involved will not be considered an officer.
2.6 - Disciplinary Action - In the event that someone does something serious enough to warrant some kind of action within the guild, officers can issue warnings to members, and if there are sufficient grounds, a member may be removed from the guild where appropriate. Removal from the guild will require a minimum of X officer's approval (X to be determined).
2.7 - Profiting off of Guildmates
2.7.1 - Items - It is generally expected that
BoE items be offered to guildmates for free if the item is an upgrade from what they are currently using. In the case of sought-after
BoE rares and epics, it can be difficult to part with the items for free, however, if you choose to ask to be paid for the item, you should not charge more than half the "going rate" (the median or average price listed on Allakhazam, whichever is lower). Free is best though. Remember, it's to your advantage to have well-equipped teammates.
2.7.2 - Trades - You are expected to offer crafting skills to guildmates free of charge for goods or services that cost you nothing or nominal amounts. For more expensive goods and services, you are expected to provide the crafting for free but the materials are the responsibility of person requiring the service. People with gathering professions are expected to offer small quantities of goods for free, if required. While it is expected that people offer these things for free, tips or reciprocal favours are encouraged.

3. Conduct within the Alliance
3.1 General Guidelines - As with guild members, alliance folks should generally be treated with respect. Be yourself, but be mindful that your actions reflect on the guild as well. Avoid doing or saying things that might make the guild look bad.
3.2 Helping Out - While never required, it never hurts to spread the love. If allies in your area are having problems with horde, you are encouraged to lend a hand when it's reasonable to do so. Assisting random groups or individuals with quests and instances can be a bit of a headache, but if the request is reasonable, try to help out there as well.
3.3 Swearing and "Adult" Conversations
3.3.1 ...in General/Trade/
LocalDefense/
LookingForGroup - Swearing is against the TOS and may be actionable by Blizz. Try to avoid for obvious reasons (and because it reflects poorly on the guild).
3.3.2 ...in party/raid chat - Swearing is still against the TOS and if you say something that upsets another player, you may find yourself punished by Blizzard. Most groups do not seem overly bothered by a little profanity, but use your judgement, and if asked to stop, apologize and adjust your language accordingly.
3.4 Discriminatory Language - As in 2.4, language that discriminates against anyone based on race or sexual orientation is totally unacceptable.
3.5 Inter-personal Disputes - In the event that you have a serious problem with an ally that requires anything beyond /ignore, consider bringing the problem to attention of a guild officer. Try to avoid posting about it on public forums. If you feel compelled to go public, be civil and professional.
4.
PvP Conduct
4.1 General Conduct - Respect your opponents. They're just trying to play the game like you are. That said, the expectation on this server is that players should be able to engage in combat as they feel like it. Fight hard, fight often, but conduct yourself with class and try to have a little sportsmanship.
4.2 BG Exploits - Exploits in BG are generally regarded as cheating, and reflect poorly on the guild. Please refrain from using known exploits in BG. Known exploits include:
WSG:
- Using the path up the hill into the Horde base on the graveyard side. Technically not much of an advantage for us anyway.
- Hiding in areas where the horde cannot get to you (not sure if these areas are still accessible, but if they are...)
AV:
AB:
4.3 Ganking - This is a
PvP server so "Red = Dead" is a valid code of conduct. There is no policy against killing another player who is considerably lower level than you. Just be sure that's not all you do. ;)
4.4 Corpse Camping - Corpse-camping (killing a player repeatedly as they attempt to res, without giving them a chance to leave the area) is considered griefing, and generally is not acceptable. Exceptions may be made for extenunating circumstances (e.g. you are 'returning the favour'). Note that killing someone, moving away, and then coming back later and killing them again is not corpse camping and is totally acceptable.
4.5 Emoting - While clever and well-timed emotes are encouraged, avoid over-using emotes and speech macros. /spitting on opponents is generally frown-upon (unless they had it coming) and spamming /spit is unacceptable.
4.6 Smack Talk - Avoid excessive smack-talk in public chat and forums. If you want to talk smack to an opponent and it's meant in fun, be sure the person it's directed at is aware of your intent.
5. Out-Of-Game Conduct
5.1 General - The guidelines here are similar to those for section 3, namely, respect others and conduct yourself in a way that reflects well on the guild.
5.2 Posting on the Guild Forum - The rules for the guild forum are the same as those for section 2, especially sections 2.3 and 2.4. Generally, anything goes, so long as it does not make anyone uncomfortable.
5.3 Posting on the
WoW Forums - The rules for the
WoW forums are the same as those for section 3, especially sections 3.3 and 3.4. Don't embarrass the guild. With that in mind, feel free to discuss whatever you like, so long as it does not involve private guild matters. If a topic somehow involves you personally, try to remain civil, courteous, and objective.
5.4 Other - In the event that you interact with people outside the guild in real life or across other media (e.g. IRC), avoid discussing internal guild issues.
6. Guild Recruitment and Applications
6.1 General Guild Recruiting Status - We currently aren't actively recruiting. We gained a large number of high-quality individuals simply through merging several friend-based guilds, and are therefore not in a great need of additional players. That said, if someone knows of an individual who would be an asset to our guild, we are always happy to consider them for guild membership.
6.2 Criteria for Selecting New Guild members - The single most important criterion for selecting additional members is compatibility. We want people who will enhance our in-game experiences -- people who are friendly, respectful of others, and generally a lot of fun. Player skill is an added bonus, but not a requirement -- we can always help people to play more effectively, but chemistry is something that can't be learned. Similarly, we won't give special consideration to people of a particular class or itemization. A dwarf priest in full Transcendence won't be considered for membership if they don't play well with others.
6.3 Applying to Not in the Face - Anyone considering joining Not in the Face should complete an application in our public [url=
http://syzygy.thedigitalsoul.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=8]Recruitment∞ forum.
6.4 Conditional Acceptance - Once the officers have reviewed the application, they may ask the applicant to group repeatedly with members of Not in the Face (at everyone's convenience) to get to know the prospective member. If, over the course of this partying, several
NitF members are of the opinion that the applicant would be a good fit for the guild (and no one feels strongly that the person would not be a good fit), the applicant will be asked to complete a 'Guild Quest.'
6.5 Guild Quest - As a last step toward becoming part of the
NitF family, the applicant will be required to complete a Guild Quest. The objectives of the quest will be given to you by an officer, and you will have to complete the quest and, if required, submit proof of your success. The quests are varied and imaginative, and may involve composing a sonnet or running naked through Orgrimmar while spamming a particular emote. The quest shouldn't take more than an hour or so to complete. The purpose of the quest is to determine your loyalty and commitment to the guild, and to further engender an atmosphere of fun and revelry. Plus we just really like to haze the new guy. ;) Upon successful completion of the quest, the applicant will be invited to the guild and start their probationary period.
6.6 Probationary Period - The new member will be an initiate until they are promoted by the officers. While they are initiates, they will enjoy all the benefits of full membership except:
They cannot nominate or vouch for other applicants.
They will not have access to the guild bank or other guild resources (although they may receive items from individual guild members at their discretion).
Once the officers feel an initiate has become a valuable member of the guild, the initiate will be promoted to full member. In the unlikely event that the initiate is not felt to be a good fit, they may have their probationary period extended, or they may be asked to leave. The probationary period may last anywhere from a few weeks to a month (or more) depending on initiate's activity in the guild.
6.7 Former Guildies - Former members of Fist of the Monkey, Lemmings, The Secret Guard of Nozdormu, Syzygy, Tastes Like Burning, and The Crimson Abyss that have not yet made the transition to Not in the Face will now have to follow the regular application process. As well, former guildies of members' other guilds will not be given special consideration (although having those references may be a significant asset in the application process).
6.8 Real-life Friends - Real-life friends and family of Not in the Face members who are just starting out on the server of moving from another guild on the server will not receive special consideration, although, as with former guildies, their connections within the guild may carry additional weight. Everyone has 'one of those' friends, so we would like to retain some control over application process in order to ensure that everyone's experience is as positive as possible.
